  • Cloud Nine Hair | The Minimalist

Minimalism, the clean slate of fashion, the class act, the reserved sibling of ornamental trend. Minimalism describes movements in various forms of art and design, especially visual art and music, wherein artists intend to expose the essence or identity of a subject through eliminating all non-essential forms or features. This concept is about putting the power of Cloud Nine Hair on show with a clean, crisp background. No tricks, no distractions, the styling and silhouette are clean and simple to give way to effortless hair that every girl wants to have.

The Minimalist features eight unique looks that capture the essence of simplicity whilst still giving a jaw-dropping impact. Reflecting the versatility of the Cloud Nine Hair styling range, each look relays the endless capabilities of the tool portfolio. The styles are fashion forward and bring runway worthy hair to life, yet are accessible to every women.

This campaign has been designed to reflect the diversity of the Cloud Nine styling range with each of the featured looks depicting a style that can be crafted using the entire Cloud Nine hair styling range. Unlike previous Cloud Nine campaigns, The Minimalist showcases looks that can be created using multiple tools from the hair straightener range, the curling wand range and of course Cloud Nine's signature heated roller system, The O.

Created in New York by Cloud Nine Creative Director, Lauren McCowan, The Minimalist encapsulates the true spirit of the fashion capital of the world. In support of the hero shots, Lauren also crafted a short film to bring The Minimalist  to life. The film will make its début at the  Australia Hair Fashion Awards 2015, after cementing its finalist position in the Hair Fashion Video Award category.

  • Not your average hairdressing course | Create Your Collection

The inspirational team from Chumba joined forces with Haircare Australia from the 10th to the 12th of August to bring an educational photographic experience unlike any other to the hair industry. Not your average hairdressing course, this educational workshop gave the students the chance to have their finished work published across the international hair landscape, not bad for three days work.

The sold out workshop gave 10 lucky stylists the chance to work with the well-known, Carl Keeley and some most highly regarded and experienced names in the industry; make-up artist, Paul Blanch; Leanne Cutler of Hair Shots; retoucher, Peter Orlik; and Alex Newman of Chumba - all helping to drive the creative force and harness the talent amongst the diverse group.

We had a mixed bag of participants, from salon owners to the newly qualified. Most had dabbled in a shoot or two but none had yet experience the success of creating an image that reflected their own abilities to their best. All were nervous at the start but full of confidence by the end of shoot day. I was so proud of their learning journey and of the work they created” – Carl Keeley.

Day one was all about unwrapping the mystery surrounding photography, uncovering the basics, setting goals, research, planning and navigating the whole photography process. The second day saw the course change from the basics, to getting a solid grip on the most important thing when developing a collection; the vision. From drawing on this inspiration to creating the brief, right the way through to getting the right models, this workshop touched on it all.

The workshop wrapped up with a photo-shoot, where the group had the chance to implement every aspect of their new-found knowledge. With the assistance of their mentors each student was able to completely nail their on-set hair, shot selection and retouching, allowing them to have their collection distributed for the international editorial coverage.

The collection, named Andor was inspired by the concept of stripping away excess visual noise through a monochromatic palette, similarly muting the gender bias to one of androgyny. The students were asked to focus on strong shapes and silhouettes to create impactful images.

We hope you'll agree that all of the stylists excelled on producing their first ever photographic work. The collections have been confirmed to be published in Highlights in Brazil, Czech Republic, France, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Poland, Portugal, Russia, Slovenia, South Africa and in Estetica in Argentina, Mexico, Colombia, Peru, Paraguay, Uruguay, Chile, Costa Rica, Venzuela, Canada, France, Russia, Slovenia, South Africa and Ukraine. A huge congratulations to all involved.
