"There are a small number of hairstylists that I have worked with in my career that are so worldly talented and creative. Peter Gray is one of those people. A rapper, whose name I won't mention, once said to 'bow in the presence of greatness' - this is exactly how you feel when you’re in the presence of Peter, who would absolutely murder me for saying this, but when you are with him, you’ll truly understand". – Violet Sainsbury Moroccanoil International Education Manager.
Peter rose to prominence in the late 90s, known for his experimental photographic collections with people such as Sølve Sundsbø, Miles Aldridge and Richard Burbridge. He became renowned for his creative talent, ability to push the boundaries and progressive attitude, as well as becoming an advocate for eco-conscious hair.
Noted for his manically creative cutting technique, Gray formed these skills at Vidal Sasoon in London. Relocating from South Africa in the 80s, Peter became a central figure at Vidal Sasoon, progressing through the company’s training processes to become International Editorial Director. Here he spread his skills through the Vidal Sasoon academies and developed his penchant for education.
Peter has also been heavily involved with brands on the product-side of the industry, including forays with Proctor and Gamble and Aveda, where he took the role of International Editorial Consultant and developed the company’s environmentally conscious take on products and editorial content. Peter has since collaborated with a myriad of brands, and heads to Hair Expo 2016 as an ambassador for Moroccanoil.
Peter has worked artistically across many roles, also becoming a director and filmmaker with a particular niche in music videos. With this unique lens, Peter is able to view the editorial landscape from any direction.
With this innate skill, incomparable experience and rare vision, Peter enters Hair Expo 2016 with an education agenda necessary for all stylists serious about editorial work.
