    Do you have any tips for guys with thick unruly hair?

    Generally, this hair type tends to be dry and can get wiry and difficult to style - it also can get oily at the roots and dry on the ends. Using a great cleansing shampoo [try evo normal persons] to activate the scalp, remove build up and cleanse out dirt and oils is paramount, followed by a hydrating and smoothing conditioner that will moisturise and shut the cuticle.

    Your top hair cut recommendations?

    For easy maintenance, a good haircut is designed to work with your texture, thin out any excess and bring out the best of your hair - and it doesn't need to be expensive either.

    Thick hair? You cannot get away with random hack jobs for haircuts unless you want to spend all your time fighting to style it. Invest in a good hair cut.

    Dense hair? Best to look at tailored pompadours and undercuts that leave you looking sharp but work with some length on the top for shape.

    Curly hair? You can get away with more length as long as it is cut to bring out your curl - do not let a razor or thinning shears on your hair as it will exacerbate the frizz and make it more high maintenance to control.

    What are your main styling tips?

    Styling product that can go into your hair wet and dry will help control hair as soon as you step out of the shower and is an easy way to style unruly hair without taking up too much time [try Moroccanoil Original Treatment]. A good styling cream will also condense the hair and shut the cuticle without a heavy or greasy effect . A good curl control product or foundation cream [try evo liquid rollers] gives a great base to either air dry the hair, dry into shape or diffuse dry. You can then use a finishing product for your desired texture. Think a foundation product for wet to dry to set the tone and a finishing product for when the hair is dry to lock it in [try evo shebang-a-bang].

    Do you have any tips for guys on how to use hair tonics?

    Favourite product for perfect hair every day?

    Sea salt spray due to its ease of use, the texture it creates and the hold. It’s great for any type of hair and still easily malleable.

    What is your top tip to get the best shave every time?

    Keep an eye on the direction of the growth of hair. Make sure you shave with the grain not against. Keep the face hot and wet constantly.

    How regularly should you aim to visit a barber?

    For hair shorter than 1 inch on the sides I would recommend 3 weeks or less and anything between 1-3 inches then I recommend 4-6 weeks. I'd rarely advise longer than 6 weeks to keep up appearances.

    My favourite product would have to be evo haze, but if I could pick two, it would be evo salty dog with haze, best combo!

    What is your favourite thing about the product that started it all?

    Describe a day in the life of Carmen Tal?

    I wake up between 7:30 am and 8:00 am. I meditate first thing in the morning for 20 minutes. After that, I pick out my outfit for the day. I have a trainer that I work out with 3 times a week and on my own twice a week. When I don’t work out, I like to walk for at least 1 hour.

    I’m hands-on in all the departments at Moroccanoil— product development, education, PR and design—and I also happen to be the head of marketing. A typical day at work consists of meeting with the different division heads, which can last anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours. Those meetings are touch-bases to go over the projects everyone is working on; they take up most of my day.

    After work, I enjoy spending time with my family and taking time to relax with a good book or watch some TV. I also enjoy speaking with my friends over the phone. If I didn’t get a chance to go through all my emails during the day, I take the time to get back to everyone. One or two times a week I will go out to dinner with either friends or my children.

    People would probably be surprised that I have a very slow pace of life. I have learned the importance of making time for oneself and that my home is as important as my work. The key is moderation in everything that you do.

    What is your favourite aspect of working with such an amazing brand?

    My favourite part is my daily interaction with creative people of all different backgrounds and opinions inside and outside of my company. I love putting great ideas together and making them happen!

  • Get The Look | The Disheveled Up Do

    Inspired by the architectural lines of the C/MEO Collective 2017 Resort Collections, Lauren McCowan and Isabella Iasenzaniro for evo created a modern and wearable look that highlighted the detailed necklines, collars and pastel colour palette in C/MEO’s ‘Momentum and Dimension’ collections.

    "We worked closely together to define the C/MEO woman and how we would translate this throughout the runway hair looks. With the collection being an abstract take on classics, we decided there was no more classic hair style than a bun. We worked to deconstruct the traditional bun in a way that was worthy of the catwalk but still modern. The end result was slightly disheveled but completely wearable, created with the magic of evo styling products.” - Lauren McCowan.

    1. Damp the hair and spray evo salty dog throughout hair and brush through using evo conrad bristle paddle brush and roughly blow-dry hair

    2. Create a triangle section through the front of the hair using evo truman tail comb and clip away. Section out the two front sections and clip away. Pull hair into a ponytail, spray with evo builders paradise at the base and secure with an elastic

    3. Sprinkle evo haze throughout the ponytail. Divide ponytail into two sections, twist and knot. Pin ends into the bun and create texture using fingers

    4. Remove front sections from clips and tuck into the bun. Slightly pull out sections of hair around the hairline and shape with your fingers and evo builders paradise

    5. Undo the top section and sprinkle in evo haze and create texture with hands. Lightly spray pieces with evo builders paradise and tuck into the bun

    6.  Spray bun with evo love touch and rub through the loose strands at the hairline

  • Renya Xydis' High Tea

    Tuesday the 19th July marked Renya Xydis' inaugural  High Tea at the John Olsen Penthouse in the heart of Melbourne. With an outlook of the Melbourne skyline, the penthouse acted as the perfect backdrop for  for an afternoon of scones, champagne and Cloud Nine Ambassador, Renya Xydis.

    Haircare Australia Creative Director, Lauren McCowan hosted the High Tea covering a range of topics spanning Renya's 35-year-long career. As the driving force of creativity for her three salons, renowned editorial stylist and runway hair director, there was no shortage of talking points. With champagne and conversation flowing, Renya touched on all aspects of her career, paying homage to her family and staff (who she also fondly regards as her family), highlighting the important role they've played in her career.

    "My staff come before my clients. My team are number one, and I'll do almost anything to support them".

    When it comes to her team, Renya keeps it simple. She rewards loyalty, praises hard work and tries to provide the best environment she can for her second family. Loud music, laughter and presentation are Renya's key ingredients for a successful workplace.

    "I make sure I look good everyday. I put on a heel. I put my lipstick on. I expect that from my staff too".

    After spending the afternoon in Renya's company it quickly became apparent (family aside), that Renya's humble nature, kind heart and passion are the driving force of her success. Professing that it was only a few short years ago that she was passing pins to Eugene Souleiman at Fashion Week, Renya recognises that even if you're a salon owner or have 20 years of experience, you still have to prove yourself and work hard to get where you want to be.

    The High Tea attendees were given the chance to quiz Renya, paying close attention to her social media presence. With over 60,000 followers across her Instagram accounts, Renya treats her accounts like a 'magazine' - a place to share the life of  a 'travelling hairdresser'. Recognising the importance of social media in the hairdressing industry Renya uses both her Webazine and social profiles to inspire the industry and share not only her own work but that of her team as well.

    Step 1

    Starting with damp hair, apply 1-pump of Moroccanoil Treatment and Heat Styling Protection from root-to-tip to create the perfect styling foundation. Blow-dry straight and then use a comb to create a deep centre part.

    Divide hair into 2-inch sections and straighten hair with a Cloud Nine Original Iron from the bottom layers to the top.

    Once hair is pin straight, take a comb and brush the right side back following the shape of the head to create a broken wave.

  • Guy Tang Olaplex World Tour 2016 | The Details

    Guy Tang, the social media phenomenon and talented ‘Hair Artist’ joined Haircare Australia over the June long weekend, flying in from Los Angeles to be at Hair Expo Australia in Melbourne as part of his Olaplex World Tour. The Hollywood self-proclaimed ‘hair activist’ and passionate Olaplex advocate has built an incredible following across social media with his unique and colourful hair artistry.

    His whirlwind tour started with model preparation and a mammoth pre-lightening session by the expert team of Haircare Australia colourists and technicians.  This was followed by a day in Prestige Partner salon Telleish Hair Studio in Port Melbourne, here Guy was supported by a team of stylists to colour and style models for his highly anticipated Hair Expo show. Giving each model the famous “Guy Tang” makeover, their looks were completely transformed into psychedelic rainbow colours, silver pastel tones and rich reds.

    As the weekend kicked off, the name on everyone’s lips at Hair Expo was Guy Tang. Making multiple appearances on the Olaplex stand across the weekend, Guy well and truly overwhelmed the many fans and #hairbesties that queued up to catch a glimpse of the hair guru himself. Those lucky enough were able to grab an up-close and personal selfie with Guy in the Olaplex stand photo booth.

    The anticipation for Guy Tang’s sold out Olaplex World tour show created a true buzz around Hair Expo. Getting in line early meant securing a place at the front of the audience to get the best view of Guy Tang and partner in crime, Rebecca Taylor on stage. Sharing their tips, tricks and techniques for protecting the hair with Olaplex, and using it as a tool to really push the boundaries of colour.  The high energy creative session saw Guy joined by Rebecca as they led the audience into a whole new world of colour.

    Having transformed six models into vibrant and unique colours, the audience got a true taste of Guy’s creativity and talent and some unique techniques that can be brought back into the salon. Utilising Olaplex multiple times throughout the lightening and colouring process, both Guy and Rebecca expressed the revolutionary product has completely changed the way they can colour hair and has enabled them to take their colour work to new heights. Wrapping up the show, Guy stopped for a group selfie with the audience much to their amusement.

    Taking to the stage for a final time on the last day of Hair Expo, Guy participated in a StyleLab Q&A session hosted by fellow Australian celebrity hairstylist Natalie Anne where he showcased some of his models from the previous show, answered questions about Olaplex and discussed his successful career so far. Ensuring that his fans were able to get one last snap, Guy made a final appearance on the stand to bid farewell to his adoring Hair Besties.
