What do you love most about being a hairdresser?
Every day is a new challenge and every day we get to create something new. I will never get tired of that, plus there is something so satisfying in making guests feel confident about themselves.
What is the one piece of advice you always give your clients?
Quality over quantity... full stop.
What pieces of clothing could you not live without for spring/summer?
I love my Ford + Harris ‘Spike Jonze’ succulent silver necklace pendant, it dresses up every outfit I own. Also my Valley ‘Sabbath’ sunglasses that I had transformed into specs, they will definitely get some wear and tear this spring/summer.
What is your favourite evo product and why?
The product we use the most in the salon would have to be love touch shine spray – it is literally the icing on the cake for finishing any client’s hair.
Why would you recommend the Haircare Australia Prestige Partners program?
Since becoming a Prestige Partner our salon staff feel a part of a nationwide family who cares about the success of each salon they work with. Haircare Australia has provided us with confidence in the products they offer with an exceptional education program and has allowed us to network with other like-minded hair stylists and business owners, keeping us connected and up to date with the industry.
What are your goals for the New Year?
We hope to expand the salon team and to keep creating and pushing the boundaries. We are also aiming at debuting a collection at Hair Expo in 2016.
evo and Cloud Nine were once again at the forefront of Sydney Fashion Week as they took charge behind the scenes creating some of the most iconic hair looks of the week. Here is our recap of the week, a sneak peak of the latest latest hair trends for Spring Summer 2015.
For the first time in Sydney Fashion Week history, Ten Pieces designers Maurice Terzini and Lucy Hinckfuss took the runway to the beach. In a unique display of modern-day punk with that 'just stepped off the beach' look, mother and son duo, Renya and Aiden Xydis brought the location to life through their hair look.
”We wanted to create a look that flattered the sophisticated modern-day punk and sportswear of the Ten Pieces collection. The models were styled to look as though they had just stepped off the beach, with wet and textured hair. To create shape, we used the Cloud Nine Wand in the women’s hair,” Renya Xydis says.
A true family affair, Renya directed the women’s look for Cloud Nine and Aiden directed the men’s look for evo. The hero products used by the duo were the Cloud Nine Wand and evo's salty dog and love perpetua.
"Just like the collection, we incorporated texture and layers into the men’s hair, achieving a wet look using evo salty dog sea salt spray and evo love perpetua shine drops. Prior to the show, we also
prepped the guys by giving them fresh cuts at Valonz to help emphasise the effortless, natural style.” Aiden Xydis said.
In one of the hottest collaborations of Sydney Fashion Week, evo and one of Sydney's most renowned salons, Edwards & Co came together for the outrageously enchanting and ultramodern Spring Summer 15 Dyslexicola collection.
"Just like the collection, we wanted to really push the boundaries and be equally as daring with the hair. We decided to put our own unique twist on the wet look and sectioned off strands of hair from the front to create uniquely shaped designs on all 20 models. This striking and bold look perfectly embodied the playful nature of the clothes". Byron Turnball, Hair Director
Inspired by FKA TWIGS, Byron used the hero's of the show, evo gangsta grip and happy campers to perfectly craft the wet look that acted as the perfect compliment to the magical collection.
Cloud Nine ambassador, editorial stylist and hair directing extraordinaire, Renya Xydis created the perfect ponytail for Lee Matthews stunning Japanese Katazome inspired collection.
Designed for the individual who can cleverly mix proportions and textures. Pieces have an elongated and linear appeal,
referencing an oriental style of dressing and aesthetic. Looks swing from masculine to feminine with a relaxed sense of
‘menswear for women’ expressing a confident yet understated tone.
Renya wanted to create a look to complement Lee’s creativity and use of texture. “I love how Lee uses so many different fabrics, which really inspired me to create the lived in, slept in ponytail with a lot of texture. The look is relaxed and sophisticated to compliment the collection” she says.
The “slept in ponytail” was created using a sea salt spray (try evo salty dog) to prep the hair, the Cloud Nine Waving Wand to add depth, and a texture powder to create a lived in look (evo haze is great for this).

With Mercedes Benz New York Fashion Week AW 2015 over for another year, the latest hair trends are firmly on our radar for the upcoming Winter season. The 2015 hair trends that we've seen grace the catwalk are certainly set to take our Autumn/Winter wardrobe to the next level. With up-do's plenty-full and new takes on old classics, the teams from Moroccanoil and Alterna have crafted looks to suit every style.
We break down each of the looks and give you tips from some of the worlds most highly regarded stylists.
To complement Joseph Altuzarra’s rich textures, colours, embroideries and lacquered lace, Odile Gilbert for Moroccanoil created a textured chignon with a high-shine, wet finish. Inspired by women who take pleasure in dressing up, the up-do was organic and modernly elegant.
TIP: To create a rough texture, use a generous amount of Moroccanoil Volumizing Mousse and rake through before roughly drying the hair.
Inspired by the collection concept but with a modern twist, Peter Gray for Moroccanoil created the sexy “Stride of Pride" hairstyle – a loose, textured twist with a sexy edge. To complement the collection, the style was finished with a gilded rose. This look would be perfect for a formal occasion with all of the glamour of an up-do but simplicity of of effortless waves at the back.
TIP: To ensure even crown height, count the number of brush strokes and gradually increase strokes as you work towards the top of head (try using the Moroccanoil Boar Bristle Teasing Brush).
We love this vintage look and hope to see a lot more of it throughout the season. Odile Gilbert was the mastermind behind this look, creating a “controlled glamour” style that is modern and masculine in the front and feminine and chic at the back.
Undeniably our favourite look from Autumn/ Winter 2015 so far, this look is so unique yet completely wearable. Inspired by the collection and the contrasting textures found in space, Antonio Corral Calero created the hair style showcasing the duality of soft and strong—distinctly different, but undeniably connected.
TIP: Use Morccanoil Styling Gel to smooth down the roots to keep hair fly-away-free but with just the right amount of shine.
It was all about the colourful accents at Delpozo' show. Staying on the hair accessories trend, Antonio Corral Calero, Moroccanoil’s global creative director, incorporated the designers’ custom-made, voluminous hair pieces into the style by creating the perfect foundation: healthy, hydrated hair.
TIP: A cocktail of Moroccanoil Original Treatment and Moroccanoil Hydrating Styling Cream act as the perfect foundation for any healthy and glamorous style.
Inspired by the soft sensuality and opium desire of the 1920’s Gatsby-era, Antonio Corral Calero for Moroccanoil created the glamorous faux-bob style at the Marchesa show. A trend we're seeing a lot more in 2015 is the faux-bob and this unique look shows it done to perfect using the Moroccanoil range.
TIP: Brush out your tight curls with the Moroccanoil Boar Bristle Classic Brush to give soft, shiny waves.
At the Monique Lhuillier show there were this time not one but three distinct hairstyles created by Bob Recine. The three styles were inspired by the individuality, edginess and sultriness of the modern woman. Monique’s modern twist on 1920’s feminine silhouettes, created the perfect foundation for the sensual and sculpted styles. The Top Knot, Asymmetrical Ponytail and Straight Style capture some of the key looks of the season.
TIP: Use Alterna Bamboo 48 Hour Sustainable Volume Spray to accentunate your hair's natural texture.
TIP: For those of you with tight curls like this, use Alterna's Kendi Dry Oil to help control frizz and give extra shine.
evo hair once again saw itself and the forefront of New York Fashion Week as Lauren McCowan and her team from the evo New York Study Tour styled TOME's Autumn Winter 2015 runway show. Creating an effortless yet sleek ponytail, Lauren's hair direction was the perfect compliment to TOME's tailoring. In six simple steps this post will give you the tips to recreate this stunning sleek ponytail yourself. Your go-to hairstyle for the upcoming winter months.
"The inspiration for the look came directly from tome’s collection, they have become synonymous with classic structure and exquisite tailoring, but with unexpected finishes and fabrics. the looks for the collection were quite ladylike, so we wanted to bring a sport luxe feel to the hair and a really effortless finish to offset the tailoring of the collection; maintaining that hint of the unexpected. An effortless sleek ponytail that brings out the shape of the face with texture and
separation, enabling the focus to remain on the tome collection and to add a sporty edge to ladylike construction" - Lauren McCowan Hair Director
Spray in evo root canal around the front hair line, through the sides and the top of the head to the crown and comb back with a wide tooth comb. Dry with a blow-dryer.
Layer evo shebang-a-bang over the front of the hair and rake in for separation and texture.
Set the sides of the hair with evo helmut light hairspray and work hair into a low ponytail at the nape of the neck.
Using a thin elastic or hat elastic and secure hair into a tight ponytail at the base of the hair.
Detail ponytail with evo shebang-a-bang sprayed only into random areas of the tail, for an unexpected clash of texture and definition.
To control flyaways around the front of the hair, use a touch of evo casual act to control the front hairline without looking too done.
The Autumn Winter show this year was not just your average collection showcase, but also the début of Sarah Jessica Parker's shoe collaboration with TOME. The evo team were given the rare and exciting chance to meet the fashion queen herself backstage, the ultimate fashion week experience for the lucky team.
Minimalism, the clean slate of fashion, the class act, the reserved sibling of ornamental trend. Minimalism describes movements in various forms of art and design, especially visual art and music, wherein artists intend to expose the essence or identity of a subject through eliminating all non-essential forms or features. This concept is about putting the power of Cloud Nine Hair on show with a clean, crisp background. No tricks, no distractions, the styling and silhouette are clean and simple to give way to effortless hair that every girl wants to have.
The Minimalist features eight unique looks that capture the essence of simplicity whilst still giving a jaw-dropping impact. Reflecting the versatility of the Cloud Nine Hair styling range, each look relays the endless capabilities of the tool portfolio. The styles are fashion forward and bring runway worthy hair to life, yet are accessible to every women.
This campaign has been designed to reflect the diversity of the Cloud Nine styling range with each of the featured looks depicting a style that can be crafted using the entire Cloud Nine hair styling range. Unlike previous Cloud Nine campaigns, The Minimalist showcases looks that can be created using multiple tools from the hair straightener range, the curling wand range and of course Cloud Nine's signature heated roller system, The O.
Created in New York by Cloud Nine Creative Director, Lauren McCowan, The Minimalist encapsulates the true spirit of the fashion capital of the world. In support of the hero shots, Lauren also crafted a short film to bring The Minimalist to life. The film will make its début at the Australia Hair Fashion Awards 2015, after cementing its finalist position in the Hair Fashion Video Award category.

Award-winning Editorial Stylist, Sarah Laidlaw our newest Cloud Nine Ambassador joined forces with fellow Ambassador, Teneile Robinson in Sydney to teach some of the household names of the blogging world the latest and greatest in hair styling with Cloud Nine.
In an intimate look-and-learn, the group were taught how to create Victoria Secret Curls using the Waving Wand and the so hot right now; Wavy Lob using the Micro Wand. Sarah and Teneile also treated the class to a range styling tips and ways to get the most out of the Cloud Nine range; here are some of our favourites.
Hair Friendly Heat
Sarah and Teneile outlined that being able to select the temperature of a heated styling tools is absolutely essential, especially when it comes to styling dry, damaged or colour-treated hair. In order to rebuild the health of the hair you need to be able to use heat protection sprays that won't evaporate due to extreme heats. When you style your hair at higher temperatures you're removing the water from the hair which means it struggles to hold it's shape for long periods of time.
Keeping your Curls Curly
So often we let curls drop straight after styling which really hinders the curls ability to hold shape and bounce. Sarah enlightened us that we need to become better friends with hair pins and spend the extra couple of seconds pinning our hair after curling it. The result? A longer lasting more curly curl.
Antonio Corral Calero, Moroccanoil Global Creative Director created voluminous polished waves with a touch of old Hollywood glamour for Jenny Packham's Spring Summer 2015 collection at New York Fashion Week.
