“He adored New York City. He idolised it all out of proportion…No, make that: he romanticised it all out of proportion. Yes. To him, no matter what the season was, this was still a town that existed in black and white and pulsated to the great tunes of George Gershwin”.
– Woody Allen, Manhattan.
Back from the city so amazing they named it twice; the Haircare Australia New York Study Tour team are putting their new found knowledge and experience to the test. After a week of fashion shows, creative workshops, celebratory drinks and a dash of exploration, the group are now well versed in the fundamental rights of passage amongst New Yorkers. Really, how much more New York can you get than experiencing Fashion Week first hand?
In its second year, the NYST has again proven its place as one of the most exciting educational events on offer to Australian hairdressers. The stellar line-up of activities, brands and mentors are what makes the now annual event an inspiringly unique experience. With so many activities on offer, each day brings something new that each attendee can immerse themselves into. From working with the Haircare Australia portfolio and uncovering new skills, to learning about the fundamentals of running a successful business, the tour is as informative as inspirational.
Led by Haircare Australia Creative Director, Lauren McCowan and her band of experienced contributors, each attendee was able to get up close and personal with some of the most influential names in the industry. Stimulating and thought provoking content was rife throughout the tour, with each snippet of knowledge perfect for implementation in any salon. Having lived in New York herself, Lauren knows first-hand what the city has to offer and has carefully crafted the tour to showcase the best of the best. “One of the key functions of the NYST is to immerse you as a creative into all this city has to offer, share and collaborate on the craft of hair, while showing you new experiences in the city that never sleeps” Lauren says of the NYST.
The highlight of the tour for many was no doubt the once in a lifetime experience to work behind the scenes at New York fashion week. With Kenna Kennor directing for evo, the NYST team created the perfect complement to TOME designers, Ryan and Ramon’s Spring Summer 2016 collection. The look, accurately dubbed ‘freshly slicked’ provided a naturally flawless, fresh out of the shower look. Working behind the scenes at Fashion Week is a defining experience for many stylists and being able to participate in a week-full of amazing opportunities alongside it only makes the NYST experience unlike any other.
The NYST is all about offering a glimpse into the minds of some of our best and brightest ambassadors who have a long-standing love affair with the incredible city that is New York. With education at the heart, this tour is the perfect platform for hairdressers from all walks to life to experience the new and fantastic opportunities on offer through Haircare Australia Education and the NYST.
