People go to Mr Burrows not only to enjoy their experience but with the knowledge that their hair is in good hands.

    Mr Burrows Top 3 Tips

    1. Home hair care is insurance for your hair. Use the right products for your hair type and use them correctly.

    2. Shampoo your hair correctly. Shampoo the roots only, then towel dry the ends as hair is like a sponge. If you don’t squeeze the water out you won’t get the most out of your product.

    3. Always ask the client how open they are to trying something new. You never know how far you can push their next haircut, but we work with them to get the most out of it.

    What makes Mr Burrows unique?

Our aim, from the moment you step through the front door, is to provide an escape to your everyday life. Our philosophy 'accessible luxury' means being able to deliver the highest level of service at an affordable price from a stylist that has been properly and continually trained. Our clients also love the little extras, like the individual cheese platters or cheeky vino that we offer.

What are your tips for running a successful salon?

Number one is consistency. Never forget who pays the bill. Clients need to walk through the door and be treated the same every time. Number two is your team. Without a happy, cohesive and supported team your salon will not be successful.

You recently worked in the evo fashion week team, how was that?

What a pleasure to be asked to work on this amazing show, overlooking Bondi beach. Reyna Xydis is great to work with, having her direction on a show is always inspirational and learning new techniques is what makes me love this job so much! The look we worked on was really cool, giving a just stepped out of the beach finish. We pre-styled the hair to create movement, then using serums and oils we drenched the hair down and it worked a treat.

How has being a Haircare Australia Prestige Partner benefited your salon?

The Haircare Australia Prestige Partner program has boosted my salon immensely. Being part of this program saves you time managing multiple accounts/stockists and of course money. Not to mention that it offers you a massive range of high performing products for really competitive prices. The access we get to training and support from a huge team of professionals is a big positive too. I am also booked on to the New York Study tour, which, without Prestige Partners, would not have been on my radar this year. This is no doubt going to be unbelievably inspiring and I can’t wait to bring this knowledge and enthusiasm back to my salon, team and clients.

  • Haircare Australia's Prestige Partner Business Summit

As the doors closed on Haircare Australia’s inaugural Business Summit in August, Prestige Partner members had the chance to reflect on the highlights of the weekend that included sifting through seminar notes, contemplating new strategies and taking a well earned break from the jam-packed weekend that was.

The brainchild of Prestige Partner creator, Ward Gauvin, the Business Summit is a conference offered to members of HCA's Prestige Partners program designed to provide practical strategies to help businesses grow. The two-day event was held in the unique, creative setting of the Museum of Old and New Art (MONA), 12km out of Hobart – a venue that showcases the largest private art collection in Australia. A perfect blend of wine, food, art and business, the weekend signified the ultimate sensory experience. The industry-leading line-up included social media specialist, Troy Townsend of Tiger Pistol, Marketing Consultant Amanda Stevens, plane-crash survivor Allana Corbin and Leesa Smith of Beehive Creative. Supporting these inspiring speakers was an expert panel consisting of Haircare Australia’s Creative Director Lauren McCowan, Lorna Evans, Paul Dare of Dare Hair and Belinda and Carl Keeley from Chumba Hair Concepts & Salon.

hca-blog-2Amanda Steven’s presentation on strategies for doubling salon retail results proved to be one of the most talked about aspects of the Summit, alongside Troy Townsend, co-founder of Tiger Pistol’s session on equipping small businesses with the tools to make big noise in the social media space. Not to mention the inspiring Allana Corbin delivering a message of pure strength whilst the expert panel ignited thought and passion for the industry as a whole. No conference is complete however, without the chance to mix with like-minded individuals that share a common interest. Our Prestige Partners were treated to a private guided tour of MONA, an intimate wine tasting at underground winery, Moorilla, followed by a cocktail dinner party at Franklin restaurant; complete with a private showing of ‘The Shadows Calling’ exhibition by Patricia Piccinini and Peter Hennessey.

Some of the biggest news from the Summit this year was the announcement that Haircare Australia founders Jan and Geoff Gauvin were celebrating 40 years in business. At a formal dinner held at the Henry Jones Hotel, Jan and Geoff were presented with a certificate to mark the momentous occasion by the Premier of Tasmania. A chance for all to reflect on how far the hairdressing industry has come and the Gauvin family's contribution. "The boys are taking HCA to another dimension. The accolades belong to them, they are Haircare. It's Brad, Garth and Ward. We're just on the side now - it's not us, it's them" says Jan upon recieving their award. The perfect end to what had been an insightful couple of days, our Prestige Partners left the weekend feeling inspired and reminded that they belong to a truly rewarding industry full of like-minded and passionate people, and what's more, part of the Haircare Australia family.
